Australia has agreed to grant visas to five members of Iran’s women’s football team who sought refuge in the country after fears they could face “dire consequences” if they returned home.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said "Australians have been moved by the plight of these brave women."

He added: “they are safe here and they should feel at home here.”
