Former defence minister Tobias Ellwood has told Sky News that there will never be a better opportunity of giving Iran a "new lease of life" right now.

He urged allies around the world to ensure that the regime does not remain "under new management".

Ellwood said: "We need to say that after decades of Iran's deliberate instability across the Middle East, never has there been a better opportunity for the international community to allow Iran to move into a new chapter. Are we really going to forgo that chance?"
