Former footballer Joey Barton has been charged with assaulting a man on Merseyside.

The 43-year-old is accused of wounding with intent - a more serious form of GBH - along with a second man, 50-year-old Gary O’Grady from Huyton.

The incident is alleged to have happened on Sunday.
