Kuwait’s emir says the country was attacked by a neighbouring state it considers a sister nation, despite not allowing its territory or airspace to be used against it.

In remarks on the escalating regional tensions, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah said authorities had directed that the level of preparedness be raised while maintaining public reassurance.

Urging vigilance, he warned that the region is witnessing rapid developments and an unprecedented escalation.

The emir also called on the public to avoid spreading rumours or incitement that could fuel unrest.
