PM vows to 'protect British lives' as first UK repatriation flight leaves the Middle East

The prime minister says the government's "number one priority is protecting our people" as he announced that the UK's first repatriation flight has left the Middle East, during an update on the situation in Iran.

Sir Keir Starmer said more than 4,000 British people have now arrived back in the country on commercial flights from the UAE, including vulnerable Brits, with more flights scheduled for today.

He further revealed that defensive assets were moved to Cyprus and Qatar throughout January and February to ensure the UK was "in a heightened state of readiness".
