In an interview with Sky News, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani has described a “big sense of betrayal” by the Iranian leadership following the attacks on Qatar.
“Just maybe an hour after the start of the war, Qatar and other Gulf countries were attacked right away,” Sheikh Mohammed said, adding the assault took place despite statements from several countries in the region that they were not going to take part in any war against Iran, and despite concerted efforts to find a diplomatic solution.
Iran’s “miscalculation” to attack Gulf countries “has destroyed everything”, he said, adding that Qatar completely rejects the justifications and pretexts used for the escalation.
He also said it was shocking that Iran continued attacking Gulf countries even after President Masoud Pezeshkian apologised to them and said they would no longer be targeted as long as they did not attack Iran.
Still, he noted, Qatar “will continue talking to the Iranians and seek de-escalation”.
