Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports live from Beirut. He says Israeli air strikes hit southern Beirut, marking some of the most intense bombardment seen in recent days. The attacks come after Israeli forces issued evacuation orders for parts of the Lebanese capital, leaving many neighbourhoods largely deserted.

Attacks have killed 634 people, including 91 children, according to authorities. More than 800,000 people have been forced to flee.
