US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth says military plans 'most intense' day of strikes

US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, hold a briefing on the Iran war from the Pentagon.

President Trump says US objectives in Iran are "pretty well complete" and the war will be "ended soon" - a significant shift from his initial timeline for the operation of up to five weeks.

However, he has also threatened Tehran with "death, fire and fury" should the regime target oil sites in the Gulf, or the Strait of Hormuz, in seemingly contradictory comments last night.
