Pete Hegseth says an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship "that thought it was safe in international waters".

At least 80 people were killed in the strike, which occurred in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka's deputy foreign minister told local television.

It was earlier believed at least 140 people were missing after the incident.
