Fear and uncertainty in Ethiopia: Residents leave Tigray capital fearing conflict

Tensions are rising again in northern Ethiopia, raising fears of another war in the Tigray region just three years after a devastating conflict killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Residents say banks are running out of cash, basic supplies are scarce, and federal forces are once again deploying near the region’s borders. Many civilians are now leaving the regional capital, Mekelle, fearing the fragile peace could collapse.
